International classes
Welcome to the Athénée de Luxembourg – International Classes’ Website and by extension, to the school. If you are a first-time visitor, I invite you to look around and contact us with any comments or questions. If you are a returning guest, it is our pleasure to welcome you again. The website has been designed to give you sufficient information to form an impression and learn generally about our school and the courses on offer. The AL is a certified International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, offering the IB Diploma Programme. With more than 4,000 IB schools worldwide, the education that we offer is globally recognised and easily transferable. The AL has been accredited by the IBO as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School since 2010.
Since September 2017, the Athénée de Luxembourg offers a full 7-year secondary education with English as language of instruction. Before joining the actual IB DP in Grade 12, students can follow five years of Secondary education specifically designed to prepare students for the IB DP. The International Classes encompass three preparatory years (Grades 7 to 9) two intermediate years (grades 10 & 11) leading up to the IB Diploma Programme (grades 12 & 13).
The International Classes of the AL are committed to excellence in the education and the personal growth of every student. Our students learn in a multicultural community where each person is respected regardless of nationality, creed, or religion. Students discover the world, its people, and its cultures through direct experience with a multicultural population. Through learning, studying, co-curricular activities and the relationships they form, students at AL learn to appreciate their own strengths and to respect differences rather than fear them. Combined with academic rigour, this experience extends beyond the classroom and equips students for success and global citizenship beyond school. We take our mission that states that “innovation is our tradition” very seriously, providing students with key skills to become citizens of a world that is changing continuously.
The IB Diploma is a strong academic programme, centered on the traditional core disciplines, which prepares students for entrance into colleges, universities, or other institutions providing under and postgraduate education and training. So far, virtually all our graduates have succeeded in joining a university or a college of their choice. The school offers student guidance and university counselling to help them make the right choices.
In addition, the school provides learning support services, which address the needs of a student body diverse in educational background and ability.
As the International Classes form a growing part of the Athénée de Luxembourg, with almost 200 students registered (in a school of 1400 students offering the regular Luxembourgish Diploma), we follow a strict admission procedure.
